What We Do

Great River Outfitters - is an outdoor adventure company that operates in late spring, summer and fall. Great River Outfitter offers a variety of boats including rafts, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards. We place guests on the Connecticut River 6-miles upstream and have you float back! We also offer seasonal camping sites in the Garden. We cater to individuals, families and large groups looking for unique, fun and exciting things to do in New England; family reunions, retreats, weddings, banquets, parties and special events. The Path of Life Garden - is a landscape shaped by a revelation of the human spirit and inspired by our relationship with the natural world. Visitors travel through 18 works of art illustrating elements that constitute human life. In doing so, spectator is transformed into participant, engaging the 14 acres of sculptures and the surrounding expanse. Accented by the Connecticut River, the Path of Life Garden accommodates hiking, picnicking, fat-tire biking, yoga/meditation and unique camping opportunities.

Where It All Began

Great River Outfitters was founded by Craig Carmody, a 24-year veteran of the Army Special Forces. He has since dedicated his life to working in civilian outdoor adventure since 2004.
In the 2026 Season Jack Hazard, a Class-5 Whitewater Guide from the Chattanooga River took over as the Operations Manager. Jack has a passion for boating, whitewater, and outdoor recreation.

Jack’s credentials are as follows: ACA Certified Kayak Instructor (River and Coastal), Class-5 Whitewater Raft Guide, Basic and Advanced Outdoor Skills, Introduction to Canoe and Kayak, Survival Backpacking and Climbing Fundamentals, Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and Swift Water Rescue.

As an avid outdoor enthusiast, Jack has spent most of his life continuously challenging and engaging himself in new outdoor activities. Jack has a love and passion for kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and especially Rafting. Jack now enjoys being able to share his knowledge with guests on the flatwater of the Connecticut river, as well as the Class 2 and 3 Rapids at Sumner Falls.
